Almost immediately after your diagnosis, rumors start flying about your condition. Some people will have you dead and some will have you in their prayers. You will find out pretty quick your closest friends.

Free advice also starts coming your way. What I would do if it were me… Please don’t take their advice.

But there are some common sense things that might apply here. I feel as though the best advice you can get is from people who have had cancer. Those that have gone through the treatments and know exactly what you will be experiencing. Ask your doctor about some of those support groups. These people can give you better strategies for making it through difficult times.

<script type="text/javascript"

Go for a second opinion. I went to five different doctors and got several different approaches. When I was first diagnosed, I was told I had cancer on my vocal chords. My second opinion was that it was not on my vocals at all but at the base of my tongue. Now if I had listened to my first doctor, I would have been minus my vocal chords, not able to talk, and still have cancer. Do not feel as though you have to be loyal to your doctor at this time, it’s for your own good.

Explore all the research you can for your particular type of treatment that is available. Inquire to others. Do not leave it all up to your doctor. When I found out about a particular treatment, I asked my doctor and he mentioned that he had heard of it but not that familiar with it. It was ultimately the treatment I chose.

You have every right to get mad, kick, scream, and cry. Do not let anyone take that away from you. But you do have to go through with what it takes to receive the treatment you need. Just ride it out. Above all, do not give up the fight, no matter how hard it may seem. I could not talk, had to have a feeding tube to get anything in my stomach, looked like death eating a cracker, but never for once did I think I was not going to make it. It does get better.

Be sure and make good friends with the nurses. Face it, you will see them more than the doctor. The nurses will help you and identify more of your problems than the primary doctor. That is just a fact. They will become your lifeline.

Regardless of your aches and pains, tell the nurses or doctor. They have a pill that will help with anything. I never felt like that was the time to worry about drug addiction anyway. I felt as though a good drug rehab facility could not be any worse than what I was going through.

Keep humor in your life. As always said, laughter is the best medicine. Turn off the news shows and turn on "I love Lucy" reruns, anything to keep your mind at ease.

Depression? Yea, plan on a little bit of that. But it should be temporary, again, resort to drugs and deal it with it later. Your first and primary goal is to get through your treatments.

All of this probably sound like cancer treatment is the worst thing you could ever possible do. In some cases it is. In some cases it’s not. It is all in the approach.

About two months ago my son was diagnosed with cancer of his vocal chords. I sat and told him everything that I’m typing right here. At 36 years old he is just not supposed to have to deal with all of this. He is taking it better than me. He is now on radiation treatment number 28 of 35. I met him at the clinic yesterday and he looked no different than before he started treatments. His throat is a little sore and his voice is a little raspy but other than that he is doing remarkable well.

I asked him about it all and how he was feeling. He just said that this was a temporary set back for a short period of time and he was the one who would determine his health, not the cancer. He has not lost a days work due to this, continues to coach his daughters softball team, very little changes in his diet but all in all his doctor said he is doing better than 95% of the people he has ever treated.

Cancer can take an emotional and a physical toll on you. Just remember you are the expert, it is your life. Listen to yourself. Your life may change dramatically after. I became mush more caring for other people, changed jobs, started thinking more of me and the direction I wanted to go in life.

If you are going through a battle right now, I wish you the best and I wish I could be there to just hold your hand for a moment.

Patrick Swayze To Congress: ‘I’m Battling Cancer. How About Some

When it comes to health, it is vital that you look for signs or symptoms that may lead to major ailments later. The best option is to nip it at the bud, especially when it comes to cancer as it easier to cure at the early stages. Learn more about throat cancer symptoms…

Cancer formed in the tissues of the pharynx is referred to as throat cancer; it begins in an area of the throat called larynx that contains the vocal chords and is used for breathing, swallowing and talking. It is a disease where malignant cells are found in tissues of the lips, mouth or tongue. The primary cause for mouth and throat cancer is smoking. People who consume excessive tobacco and alcohol are at a higher risk of developing throat cancer. Other factors include prolonged exposure to sunlight, regular inhalation of coal dust, asbestos and diesel fumes. The occurrence of throat cancer increases after age 50 and is more prominent among men rather than women.

General Symptoms

Some of the early symptoms of throat cancer are fairly general and, therefore, can easily be confused for some other condition or illness. Some of the common symptoms associated with throat cancer include:

Chronic earaches
Chronic sore throat
Difficulty speaking
Enlarged lymph nodes
Feelings of numbness in the face
Hoarse voice
Pain when swallowing
Visible sores in the mouth or on the tongue

The existence of throat cancer is determined by how long these symptoms last. Chronic or persisting cases of these symptoms can indicate throat cancer. Seek medical attention when you suffer from any combination of these symptoms. While you may not have throat cancer, medical attention is necessary to rule out any alternate potentially serious underlying cause. Chronic symptoms include the following:

Difficulty in Breathing
Loss of speech or voice
Disfigurement of face
Deformities in skin
Acute pain in swallowing

Treatment

Various factors need to be taken into consideration before deciding on the right treatment as it is rather risky as well as complex. The location of the cancer and the stage of development influence the impact the treatment may have on your speech as well.

The type of tumor and the extent to which the cancer has spread determines the treatment. Radiation therapy and surgery are the most common methods of treatment to cure throat cancer. Typically, surgery may involve complete removal of the larynx or partial cutting away of the vocal chords. A hole is made in the neck through which a tube is inserted into the windpipe in order to help the patient breathe, which could be either temporary or permanent. Radiation therapy is a process wherein cancerous cells from a localized area are destroyed by using high powered rays. Radiation therapy is coupled with surgery when there is a recurrence of the tumor after surgery. Chemotherapy is also done if the cancer has spread to other areas of the body.

How to prevent throat cancer?

If you do suffer from throat cancer, early diagnosis of the condition is essential to getting the best results from treatment options. However, if you are someone who does not smoke or drink alcohol, you have greatly reduced the risk of developing throat cancer.

1.Abstain from smoking or excessive drinking as they are the primary causes for throat cancer.
2.Maintain proper dental hygiene. If you are someone who wears dentures, keep them well cleaned and rinsed. Oral irritation increases the risk of oral cancer.
3.Develop the habit of eating healthy and nutrient rich meals regularly. Consume at least five servings of fresh fruits and vegetables everyday. A poor diet has been linked to oral or throat cancer.
4.It has been observed that over exposure to the sun increases the risk of developing oral cancer. The ultra violet rays damage the skin on your lips. When you are out in the sun, always remember to use lip balm on your lips to protect your skin. Applying sunscreen on your face and body helps protect your skin from the harsh rays of the sun.

Make a wise decision and abstain from smoking or excessive consumption of alcohol. Alternately, if you are a smoker, quit smoking. There is nothing worthwhile compared to good health and happy living. It is never too late to quit. Live a cancer-free life!

During anti cancer treatment (Conventional cancer treatment), it is difficult to protect the healthy cells of side effects caused by the drugs administered. Although the effects of treatment vary according to each patient and the medications used, all cancer patients suffer adverse effects of treatment that affect their skin, look and internal organs. An important part of the work of clinicians and patients is to precisely manage those potential side effects. The role of this article is to summarize the main side effects caused by different types of conventional cancer treatments and potential natural treatment (including nutrition, remedies and immunotherapy). Let’s start with the conventional methods.

There are four (4) types of anti cancer treatment:

Surgery – Surgery, the oldest form of cancer treatment, is used in cancer treatment either to remove only the tumor, or the entire organ. Cancer surgery offers the greatest chance for cure of cancers that have not spread to other parts of the body. However, no matter how successful a surgery can be, it provokes one or all the following side effects:
-Risk of wound infection
-Damage to internal organs and blood vessels during surgery
-Blood clots can form in the deep veins of the legs after surgery, especially if a person remains in bed for a long time
-Reactions to anesthesia or other medicines. Although rare, these can be serious because they can cause dangerously low blood pressures.
-Problems with other organs, such as the lungs, heart, or kidneys. These are very rare but can happen and can be life-threatening.

Radiotherapy – Radiation therapy is the use of ionizing radiation to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors. It can be administered externally (external beam radiotherapy) or internally (brachytherapy).
Unfortunately, radiation can cause severe blood changes including drop in production of new blood cells, nausea, anemia and vomiting. Other short/long-term side effects of radiotherapy may include:
-Irritation and burning of the skin
-Infertility – radiation to the testicles can cause permanent loss of sperm production
-Fatigue is a common effect of radiation. It may be linked to anemia or weakened immune system
-Brain disorder – radiation therapy to the brain can cause changes in brain function that can lead to memory loss, lower sexual desire, etc.
-Skin disorder – radiation therapy can make your skin become tender or sensitive. The skin may also become dry and itchy. Peeling of the skin may occur.
-Second cancers – the radiation itself can cause Second cancers (metastases)
-Erectile dysfunction – radiation therapy to the pelvis can damage the arteries and nerves that supply the penis and cause problems with erections

Chemotherapy – Chemotherapy is a systemic treatment, its effects affect both healthy cells as cancer cells. Generally, these effects depend to a large proportion of drugs prescribed and their dosage. The anti-cancer drugs quickly affect cell division. This means that the white blood cells, which fight against infection, are also affected.

This combination of factors explains why patients are more prone to infections and fatigue or even anemia during cancer treatment. Similarly, this change of cell division causes hair loss or alopecia. Intestinal disorders such as diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, and finally lesions in the mouth (mucositis) can be observed.

Hormonotherapy – Side effects caused by hormonotherapy depend largely on the type of treatment used and prescribed medicines.
One of the drugs in hormonotherapy is called Tamoxifen: it has the effect of depriving cancer cells of estrogen. The Tamoxifen can cause hot flashes, irritation or vaginal discharge, nausea and irregular menstruation.
During and after cancer treatment (conventional treatment)

Here are some advices that can help: Keep your diet low in saturated fats. Use mostly unsaturated fats such as fish oil and flax seed oil which are rich in omega 3 fatty acids. Eat fruits and raw vegetables abundantly; fruits and cruciferous vegetables reduce the risk of all types of cancers and their reoccurrences. Increase your intake of calcium; High intake of calcium reduces the risk of certain type of cancers. Maintain a normal weight; too much body fat is associated with a great number of diseases. Eat foods rich in antioxidant nutrients. Do not smoke! Cigarette smoke, including second hand smoke, is the number one cause of lung cancer. Exercise regularly and keep your body hydrated by drinking a lot of fluids daily; Silver water is necessary. Increase your fiber consumption; It is proven in several researches high fiber lower the chances of having colorectal cancers. Reduce stress, anxiety and depression by laughing, praying and singing; prayer is key to opening the door of impossibility.

Natural cancer treatment

Alternative cancer treatment is the use of herbal remedies to address the causes of the cancer (not just the symptoms) and boost the immune system to fight against pathogens and help the body heal itself. Taken regularly, certain natural herbal remedies may help to maintain the healthy functioning of every cell in your body and strengthen the immune system to ensure continued health and vitality. As we all know, a healthy strong immune system is a key element in protecting the body against infection or diseases like cancer, as well as in the promotion of recovery after illness and during cancer treatment.
